Other stuff: Fun Palace
Intro
Last summer I wached a webna about a fun place. A community ingagement project aimed at brining the community into spaces and allowing them to take ownership of them. This has been used to uplift some old and unused buildings.
These are my notes from just after the webna (summer 2022):
The concept of a fun palace was created in 1961 by Joan Littlewood, who sort to create space for the common man to experiance and be part of the arts. Allong with Cedric Price who desighned a large flexable structure in responce. Though the it was never built the original fun palice influances the Pompidou. An iconic parisian arts centre.
In 2014 Stella Duffy and friends wanted to celibrate Joan Littlewood’s centenary. They worked on the concept being able to go anywere. The first year was a succcess which they have continued. Aiming to bring cohesive cultural dimocracy to buildings throught britton. Bringing the comunity back into community space, reclaiming space and giving them access to spaces that they woud not normally have accee to .There have been a few tempory structures made and buildings decorated. But the project is more about using structures now rather then creating new ones as had been originally intended.
