Other stuff:Composition Speaks & Making Marks [Abstract workshops]

 [Written 15/8/22]

I joined two webinar presentations/workshops by Joyce Raimondo through the East Hampton Library (Eventbrite). They focused mainly on modernist, abstract artists, however, the composition presentation showed a range of different artists.

Making Marks

The first presentation looked at how the artists made marks with unorthodox tools and paint drips. The first picture was made of warm bright colours. I tried to push the viewer’s eyes along and up with the drips and scraping curves. Scratches and printing ads detail for the viewer to see later. The second was an experiment in green and copper. Marks were made with copper offcuts and drips. It came out edgy and spiky.

Composition Speaks

The task was to cut out shapes and create simple compositions, based on composition styles discussed during the presentation.
